Want to go back to comparing different bike and scooter rental service providers, check out how their offerings differ in general, across add-ons and most importantly bike rental insurance.

You’ll need an international driver’s license along with your national driver’s license. Also, most rental companies require a passport, and some may ask for your hotel address, email, and phone number. Cash payment in Indonesian Rupiah is commonly preferred, unless you book with Bikago where everything happens seamlessly online.

Yes, you need an international driver’s license to legally drive a scooter or motorbike in Bali. The license is a translation of your national driver’s license into several languages, and it’s a straightforward process to obtain one in your home country before traveling to Bali.

In a rush, consider getting an International Driver’s Permit which gives you a digital copy in a matter of minutes.

Renting a scooter in Bali is a personal choice. It offers flexibility and is a cost-effective way to travel around, especially given the limited public transportation options. However, if you’re not experienced in riding, it might be risky.

The choice depends on your needs and preferences. Smaller scooters (110cc to 125cc) are suitable for town riding and general use. If you’re traveling longer distances or to mountainous areas, consider more powerful scooters like the Honda Vario, Honda PCX, or Yamaha N-Max.

It’s wise to have your rented scooter covered by insurance to avoid high repair costs from accidents or the expense of replacing a stolen scooter.

Riding in Bali can be safe if you’re cautious and adhere to traffic rules. Be aware of road conditions, unpredictable traffic, and drive defensively.

You must drive on the left side of the road, adhere to speed limits (40-50 km/h in urban areas and 60-80 km/h in rural areas), and use indicators. Helmets are mandatory for both drivers and passengers. Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.

Yes, you must wear a helmet. Ensure it’s in good condition and has a proper fastening system.

Prioritize safety and seek medical assistance if necessary. Contact local emergency services if needed. Contact your rental company to report the accident. Remember, driving without a license might invalidate your insurance.

Familiarize yourself with local emergency numbers, including police (110), ambulance (118), and fire services (113).

It is important to note that these emergency services in Baku may not always have English-speaking operators. Try to have a local (or someone who speaks bahasa) to help you communicate in case of an emergency!

Daily rental costs vary depending on the scooter model and rental duration. Expect to pay around 70,000 to 200,000 IDR per day for different models. Long-term rentals offer better rates.

A 125cc scooter like the Vario 125cc can cost around 100,000 – 150,000 IDR ($7) per day.

Renting scooters in Bali is relatively easy and can be done at various local rental shops, hotels, or online. With my favourite option, Bikago, there’s doorstep delivery and pick-up for bookings longer than 3 days.

You must be at least 18 years old to rent and operate a scooter legally.

If caught without the correct documentation, fines or bribes can range from 50,000 to 1,000,000 IDR, depending on the situation.

Renting a scooter without a valid driver’s license is not recommended and can lead to fines or other legal issues

Are helmets provided with the bike rental in Bali?

There may be restrictions on taking rented scooters to other Indonesian islands. Always check with your rental company and ensure you have the necessary documentation and permissions

Scooters are usually rented with full petrol, and you’ll find both proper petrol stations and small roadside vendors selling gasoline. It’s your responsibility to refill the tank as needed.

Additional fees or deposits are not commonly required for short-term rentals, but long-term rentals might ask for a deposit. Always clarify these details with the rental company before renting
